Course Overview

This unique training programme has been designed and developed by industry professionals and is specifically aimed at those wishing to embark upon a career in the world of Close Protection. The course is conducted over 14 days (140 guided learning hours) and successful completion will lead to an SIA Close Protection License. Unlike many of the Close Protection courses currently available on the market this programme will address the nuances and varied operational factors relevant to this specific area of Close Protection operations. All course tutors are fully operational and highly experienced close protection operatives working with some of the biggest names in music, sport and entertainment today.

Benefits

The programme has been specifically designed to provide delegates with the additional knowledge, understanding and skills to be better able to provide close protection services within the dynamic and exciting world of the celebrity principal. Although the programme adheres to the strict requirements of the Security Industry Authority, it is delivered with a clear aim to provide delegates with the additional knowledge required for this section of the industry.

Successful completion of this programme will lead to a nationally accredited qualification. This qualification will allow the successful candidate to work in the United Kingdom as a Licensed Close Protection Officer, a legal requirement since 2006. It is worth noting that although not currently a legal requirement, many UK security companies operating abroad will only accept SIA Licensed staff. In addition to the SIA licence, successful candidates will also be afforded the opportunity to gain nationally accredited awards in First Aid at Work and Risk Assessment.

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements to this course other than students must be 18 years of age at the start of the programme and be eligible to work and reside in the United Kingdom

Course Content

The course has been accredited by the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The Celebrity Close Protection programme is approved and fulfils the requirements set by the SIA and as such is obliged to cover and assess the following core subject components;

Core subjects:

Legislation relevant to close protection – Roles and responsibilities of the close protection
Threat assessment and risk management – Search techniques – Communications and Conflict Management
Surveillance techniques – Venue Security Operations  – Interpersonal skills – Reconnaissance techniques Close protection foot drills – Operational planning and route selection – Vehicle operations

Additional subjects (Q denotes a qualification)

  • Level 2 Risk Assessment Award
  • First Aid at Work (Q-HSE)
  • Physical Intervention (relevant to CP Ops)
  • Tour Advance Security functions – Crowd Barriers
  • Drugs Awareness – Pass Systems – Dealing with Press & Media -Tour Bus Operations

The course consists of approximately 140 guided learning hours during which time the delegates with all undergo a series of close protection exercises and on-going practical assignments. The final exercise is an assessed activity incorporating all course components. This aspect of the course will include travel between various venues and locations conducting a range of close protection operations and functions with an actual principal. The duration on this phase will be two days.

In addition to the internally assessed activities all delegates will be required to pass an externally marked multi-choice examination consisting of 60 questions.

Course Duration

This programme is held over 14 days and is conducted at the Primus training centre located in Cardiff. Accommodation is not included. Please contact our office for further information on accommodation options.

Primus will assist you in the administration required for applying for your SIA licence.
